How To Curl Your Eyelashes ?
April 20th, 2008
Eyelashes is a center topic of this website, my LiLash review is available for anyone who wants to read it, but why not write some more ?
There are several methods to curl your eyelashes but I truely believe the simplest and most effective way is by using an eyelash curler. Well, I know some of you are a little scared a mechanical system around your eyes, you of course don’t want to see those super long eyelashes break or be torn. Using an eyelash curler not properly could also just pull the lashes out and not curling them.
There is another good news : you will only curl your upper eyelashes ! Okay, you’re still scared, sorry…
Here is my step by step path to achieve the perfect eyelashes, I have found some videos online that show you how to do it, but sometimes miss some important things like the first step. I tried to make it as simple as possible, I hope you will enjoy this little 7 steps guide. Before we start you just need :
- eyelash curler,
- hairdryer,
- rubbing alcohol,
- cotton balls,
- makeup : eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara for the best effect, of course it’s optional, but let’s do it like the pros !
1. Check that everything is clean : your eyelash curler AND your eyelashes. If you are already wearing mascara, you may use a makeup remover first. Your curler should be clean too, use alcohol on it with cotton balls to make sure nothing could hurt your eyes or make the process fail.
2. Apply your makeup. It could be optional, but to get the sexiest eyes, why not put some eyeshadow and eyeliner. In our case we would apply our LiLash (for those who haven’t read about it yet, apply it like any eyeliner). DON’T apply mascara now !
3. Check that your eyelashes are clean and dry, no makeup on them.
4. Take your eyelash curler and heat it with your hairdryer for about 5 seconds. It shouldn’t be too hot, so touch the metal and see if that doesn’t burn.
5. It’s time to curl ! Don’t worry, everything is gonna be alright. It looks like scissors but it will not cut your lashes. Bring the curler as close to the eyelashes roots as possible, you want to curl the whole lashes lenght. The top metal band of the curler should cover your eyelid. Squeeze the handles and the bottom silicon pad will curl the lashes, hold a few seconds. Don’t pull out the curler before opening it again, just stop squeezing the handles. (You may want to repeat the process at about half the lenght and at the end of lashes for more curl.)
6. Apply mascara now. This step really must be done after your curl your eyelashes. If done before, the macara could dry and stick on the curler, and then your eyelashes could be torn from their roots… not great. Mascara also helps to lock the curl.
7. Eyelashes curl done ! You can also use an eyelash comb if you want, but at this point you already have your best eyes.
I could add a step 8 : you have 2 eyes, so repeat the process, but I think you thought about that. When I think about it, it could be a cool emo look on only one eye.
*Why heat the curler under the hairdryer ? The heat helps to make the curl easier and also lock the curl. I first get that tip from Eyes Lips Face (in their beauty secrets section). This is a great store I would have want to know long times ago. All their makeup products are $1. Even their eyelash curler is $1 and considering all the positive reviews I will surely buy one from them.
Here is one of the video that inspired this guide and that I found the best to show how to curl your eyelashes.

Thanks for the guide and for eyes lips face I didn’t know about it too. Have you bought their eyelash curler ? Is that really good as the reviews are saying ?

Hey Vanessa, thanks for your comment, you’re the first here !
Well, no I still haven’t bought it because I already have one, but since it’s only $1 you don’t really have much to lose. Even the shipping costs are more that that ! But it would still be a great deal, most of eyelash curlers are $10-$20. At that price you could get some makeup + the curler from them.

What about heated eyelash curlers ? Anyone using some ?
Nice article.

Hi Angie,
I personnally use a traditional, mechanical eyelash curler but the guide would remain valid. You just don’t have to heat it with hairdryer, the right heat is automatically set. So, I’d say “step 4, turn on your heated eyelash curler” :).
I don’t know which one is the best, I will search on this and will tell you then.
